Mindful Ummah is more than just a support service. It is our attempt at creating a trained group that understands the intersection of faith and emotional health. Muslims suffering from anxiety, loneliness, or simply needing a listening ear, Mindful Ummah is there to help. Our goal is to bridge the gap between mental health and faith. To eventually empower individuals to seek help and healing in a way that aligns with their values and beliefs.

Our services are open to all Muslims, regardless of where you are on your journey. No Muslim has to struggle alone. The Mindful Ummah project is here to ensure that every Muslim has access to the support they need, whenever they need it, without barriers or costs. Our goal is to create a Muslim community that is resilient and at peace, living in the West.

Building A Stronger Muslim Community

Fostering Wellness and Cultivating Muslim Communities

Mental health challenges transcend cultural, religious, and geographic boundaries, affecting Muslim communities acutely due to social stigma, cultural obstacles, and a lack of mental health resources that address our unique cultural and religious needs. The Mindful Ummah helpline seeks to address these concerns by offering mental health support tailored to the Muslim community.

Of the 4 million Muslims living in the UK, 40% live in the most deprived local areas. Research suggests  that Muslims have the lowest median reported hourly earnings out of all religious identities with Muslims in employment at 51.4%, compared with 70.9% of the overall UK population. What this data and all the other data available on this matter suggests is that Muslims are more likely than the general UK population to be exposed to mental health challenges.

In fact of the 45,999 Muslims referred to NHS Talking Therapies in England during 2021-2022, only 2.6% finished their course of treatment, compare this with 18.4% of Christian patients and 38.9% of those reporting no religion, underscoring the need for initiatives like the Mindful Ummah Helpline. Our approach to this growing problem is three fold.

"The believers, men and women, are protectors of one another: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil; they observe regular prayers, practice regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Upon them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise." (Quran 9:71)

Community Engagement and Education: Our approach at Mindful Ummah starts by actively engaging with mosques and Islamic Centres. Our efforts aim to break down the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health and empower individual Muslims to seek the help they need without fear of judgment.

Culturally Sensitive Counselling:

Mindful Ummah offers free counselling services. These counsellors are all Muslims, trained to respect the cultural diversity of the Muslims we serve. This ensures a safe and understanding environment for Muslims who may not feel comfortable accessing conventional mental health care on the NHS.

Building Stronger Communities Together: Through our emphasis on education and Muslim tailored counselling, Mindful Ummah is working to build stronger Muslim communities mental health is prioritised and support is available to all Muslims.

The Mindful Ummah project is a testament to the Islamic values of mercy, compassion, and proactive community welfare. Supporting this initiative means contributing to a society where mental well-being is prioritized and where everyone, regardless of their background, has access to the support they need. Join us in this noble endeavor to uplift, heal, and unite communities through understanding and empathy.
