It is now a fact that the majority of Syrians live in poverty. The number of deaths have reached half a million and unemployment is over 50%. The Syrian people are struggling for food, water and living accommodation. We need your help to support the Syrian people, where poverty is around every corner.
Since the devastating earthquakes of 2023 in Türkiye and Syria, countless lives have been lost or shattered. Schools, homes and major vital infrastructure not destroyed by the years of war were lost due to the massive earthquake. Many people in Syria now live in makeshift shelters as efforts are made to clear debris and rubble. Syria has been devastated by natural disasters and civil wars and that was all before Israel started its latest bombing campaign against Syria. Latest estimates suggest that over 600,000 people have died as a direct result of the Syrian civil war alone. Many health care facilities are damaged or operating at reduced capacities. Schools are closed and things for the moment only seem to be getting worse.
Over 90% of the Syrian population lives below the poverty line. These are families unable to meet their basic needs, with children bearing the worst of the situation. The impact of years of conflict and natural disasters has many children traumatised, with the situation in Northern Syria appalling.
The ongoing crisis in Syria shows no signs of abating. Complete communities are in ruins due to the millions of people displaced, with individual families torn apart. International aid has to date been insufficient in providing the clean water, food and shelter these families need to survive. At United Muslims, we face logistical challenges and funding shortages, making it difficult to deliver critical assistance.
Yet, hope persists in the form of grassroots initiatives and international efforts focused on rebuilding communities and providing a semblance of normalcy for Syria’s youngest and most vulnerable. And for as long as there is hope, United Muslims will continue to be on the ground, helping in any way it can.
