INTEREST (RIBA)

Transforming Riba into Charitable Impact

At United Muslims, we acknowledge the challenge many Muslims around the world face with unintentional Riba earnings. Since Riba is not permissible in Islam, we have created a simple mechanism for you to donate Riba online and purify your wealth. The Riba funds donated are directed towards meaningful, halal charitable projects that include emergency responses, healthcare provisions and funding educational programs. This approach of transforming Riba money into charitable giving not only aligns with Islamic directives but also empowers and supports various humanitarian initiatives.

What is Riba?

Riba, also called Interest, is defined as the percentage charge over and above the principal amount of loan. It refers to the practice of increasing wealth by charging extra than the amount lent, specifically in transactions dealing with money or goods. Riba is strictly prohibited in Islam and highlighted many a times in hadith and Quran:

O believers! Do not consume interest, multiplying it many times over. And be mindful of Allah, so you may prosper.

Why is Riba Haram?

Riba is exploitative in nature and fosters an unfair environment of inequality. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned against Riba in strong terms, as reported in a Hadith: “Avoid the seven deadly sins: associating anything with Allah, magic, killing one whom God has declared inviolate without a just case, consuming the property of an orphan, consuming usury, turning back when the army advances, and slandering chaste women who are believers but indiscreet.” (Bukhari & Muslim). Riba is clearly prohibited in Islam and considered haram because it undermines social justice, takes advantage of the vulnerable and encourages hoarding of wealth against charity.

Transforming Riba for Community Welfare

While the origin of Riba money does not comply with Islamic teachings, channeling these funds into charitable actions can create a positive cycle of change. United Muslims facilitates the conversion of Riba-earned funds into meaningful community support. Here’s how your contributions become a beacon of hope:

    • Feeding Programs: The funds previously earned through Riba are now channeled into providing essential food supplies to impoverished families. We supply staple food items, cooked meals and clean drinking water to the most impoverished communities who are in dire need of nourishment.
    • Emergency Relief:

Your Riba donations offer immediate assistance in emergencies and support long-term recovery in areas hit by calamities, wars or conflicts.

  •       Educational Support:

By redirecting Riba earnings, you support our educational initiatives offering scholarships and resources to underprivileged children who are often orphans. This contribution aligns with the Islamic emphasis on knowledge and its power to change futures.

The Impact of Redirecting Riba

Riba earnings should be avoided in the first place however, in unavoidable cases, the Riba donations can create a positive cycle of change. When you donate Riba online with United Muslims, you become a part of this positive change. At United Muslims, we ensure that Riba donations are used as a catalyst for societal benefit by creating opportunities and providing aid where it is most needed. Use our donation forms to donate Riba online easily and quickly and adhere to Islamic principles of halal earnings and charitable giving.

Support United Muslims: Give your Riba to us with 100% of your donations directly funding our initiatives.

Since its founding, United Muslims has ensured every donation goes to its projects, covering any credit card fees. For example, if a $100 donation drops to $97 due to fees, the organization adds $3. This strict separation of project and operational funds ensures full public donation utilization.
